Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2017

Since I've joined the Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2017, I've had fun making my preferred block in various scraps.  And today I've made progress on the February color of Sea Green/Aqua/Turquoise/etc.

Three more elephants have been added to the elephant parade.  January's color was Purple so they are on the bottom.  If you'll notice, one of the January elephants has gone to the dogs and one of the February elephants ate a dinosaur (maybe he wasn't an elephant - maybe he was a Wooly Mammoth?).  I'm really liking these ... they are going to make great children's donation quilts!

Thanks to Miri at Milk and Honey quilts for the free elephant block pattern:

Groundhog Day

It's official.
You-know-who has forecast 6 more weeks of winter.

It's been cold off and on down here in West Central Florida, but that only serves to give us a few days to wear those clothes with the layered look that we like.  Today it is forecast to be sunny and back up to 76 degrees.  Not bad!

But last weekend was still cold and I kept inside to finish this quilt top from long ago.

It had been buried in the to-be-quilted basket for way too long.  One of my Sunshine On-line Quilt Guild members put it together at their Lake Tahoe retreat that I couldn't attend.  My contribution was quilting some of the 100+ tops that they made.  This is the last one to be finished.  It has such cute prints - they were looking at me while I quilted!

Today I'm working on a cat applique to add to a jelly roll top that I thought needed a little something to perk it up.  This is what I have so far:

Quilt Show - Part 2

Today I continue with some of my favorites and what particularly struck me at the Quilter's Crossing of Palm Harbor (FL) quilt show this past weekend.  Quite a few of the exhibited quilts had interesting embellishments.  Some were elegant and some were whimsical.  All were very artistic.

I'll start with two that cracked me up.  Quilters seem to have a great sense of humor.  This was my little froggie friend with lovely eyelashes:

And this was the dolly being repaired - be sure to read the quilter's note about the little lady's repairs:

And these were the other quilts with embellishments that caught my attention:

And last - you know it's going to be a great quilt show when even the Lady's Room has a "quilty" tile floor - ha, ha!

Quilt Show

Quilter's Crossing of Palm Harbor (FL) held their biennial quilt show this weekend.  As usual, it was delightful.  I like to walk around all of the displayed quilts first and see what's new and popular.  I then go back and take pictures of what I especially liked or ideas I thought I might use for children's quilts or quilts I was just plain in awe of.  So, this year I had lots of inspiration and will break the photos into more than one blog post.

I was surprised this year to see how many panels were used and displayed.  This was not a judged or juried show, but some of the thread painting in these panels was certainly worthy of prizes and ribbons!  Here goes a whole bunch of quilts using panels that I really liked [most photos show the entire project, then the maker's name card/description then maybe some details]:

Next post will show the creative uses of embellishments!
